Objectives and Responsibilities

 

 

Meteorological and oceanographic (hydro-meteorological) observations at seaports in Vietnam play a vital role in ensuring safety and efficiency for maritime operations and related sectors. Specifically, these include:

  • Maritime safety management

  • Marine environmental protection

  • Sustainable development

  • Transportation and commercial activities

  • Disaster prevention and climate change adaptation

Legal Framework

  • Decree No. 48/2020/NĐ-CP: Amending and supplementing a number of articles of Decree No. 38/2016/NĐ-CP dated May 15, 2016, detailing the implementation of the Law on Meteorology and Hydrology

  • Decree No. 38/2016/NĐ-CP: Detailing the implementation of the Law on Meteorology and Hydrology

  • Decree No. 155/2024/NĐ-CP: Regulations on administrative sanctions in the field of meteorology and hydrology

  • Circular No. 29/2023/TT-BTNMT: Technical regulations for the operation of automatic meteorological and hydrological stations

Regulated Observational Parameters

 

 

According to current regulations, seaport hydro-meteorological stations must monitor the following parameters:

  • Wind direction

  • Wind speed

  • Horizontal visibility

  • Tide levels and wave height

  • (For certain ports) Water current velocity measurements may also be required
